Engineering Lead — EU

About the Role

SuiteFiles builds the intelligent workspace that professional services firms — accountants, lawyers, and advisors — rely on every day: document management, creation, digital signing, client collaboration, email management, search, secure storage, and workflow. It’s built deeply on Microsoft 365 (Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, Outlook, Entra ID), serving firms around the world.

We’re growing our engineering presence in Europe, and we’re looking for an **Engineering Lead** to anchor it. This is a hands-on technical leadership role: you’ll set the technical direction for one or more squads, own the architecture and quality of significant parts of a complex, multi-tenant SaaS platform, and lead the hardest engineering work yourself. You’ll raise the bar, mentor engineers, and represent EU engineering in planning with Product, Design, and QA. SuiteFiles is a globally distributed team, across the US, the UK, Europe, and New Zealand. Working CET hours, you’ll have strong overlap with the UK and Europe and a solid afternoon overlap with the US, meaningful US overlap matters here, as you’ll partner closely with the US-based Head of Product.

We’re keeping the net wide on specialization. We’d love to hear from either a  front-end-leaning lead with solid back-end depth, or a back-end-leaning lead with solid front-end depth. We’re not after a narrow specialist on either side, what matters is genuine full-stack credibility and the ability to lead technically across the whole stack. Tell us your lean when you apply; both are equally welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of Product to shape and agree the technical strategy and architecture for an EU-led product area, and lead the most challenging implementation work hands-on.
  • Set and uphold engineering standards across the squad — automated testing, security by default, observability, supportability, and CI/CD discipline.
  • Lead the design and delivery of deep Microsoft 365 integrations (Graph, SharePoint, Exchange), with care for multi-tenant data isolation, permissions, performance, and large-file handling.
  • Mentor and grow engineers; act as a technical sounding board and review partner, lifting the whole team’s capability.
  • Drive release confidence: partner with QA on risk-based testing and release gates, and lead incident response and post-mortems for your areas.
  • Represent EU engineering in cross-functional discovery, planning, and architecture discussions across time zones.
  • Communicate technical trade-offs, scalability, and failure modes clearly — to engineers and non-engineers alike.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • 8+ years building production software, with a track record of technical leadership across one or more teams (as a tech lead, lead/staff engineer, or equivalent).
  • Full-stack credibility on our stack:  deep, current expertise in either C#/.NET back-end or JavaScript/TypeScript front-end, plus solid working experience in the other.
  • Hands-on experience designing and building cloud-based distributed systems from first principles, at production scale.
  • Experience in a SaaS / product environment, owning the architecture, quality, and operability of significant systems.
  • Strong automated-testing practice, plus CI/CD, observability, and supportability.
  • A track record of mentoring and influencing other engineers and raising team standards.
  • Based in the EU within Central European Time, with the right to work in your country of residence, and able to maintain meaningful daily overlap with US-based colleagues (plus strong overlap with the UK and Europe).

Desirable

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 integration, Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, Exchange/Outlook, Entra ID.
  • VueJS (our primary front-end framework).
  • Event-driven architecture and/or event-sourcing in production; CQRS or Hexagonal patterns.
  • Test-Driven Development as a default way of working.
  • Azure, and a relevant cloud or Microsoft certification.
  • Experience in the accounting, legal, or professional-services domain.
  • Experience establishing or growing an engineering presence in a new region.

Personal Skills, Attributes & Competencies

  • Strong ownership and a customer- and release-quality mindset, you care that what ships works for the firms who depend on it.
  • A natural mentor who leads by influence, not authority.
  • Clear communicator, including asynchronously across time zones.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and pragmatic about trade-offs between speed and quality.
  • High attention to detail, especially around security and data in a multi-tenant product.
